Why am I not getting very many votes?

 

So, you created a list, made it public and no one seems to care. It can be a rough voting world out there but here are a few tips.

First let’s look at the list that this is from…

 

1. Well first is that I have chosen an obscure subject that even most Film Noir snobs would never vote on.

2. I also haven’t shared this list with any other social network. So, any friends not on Listal have no idea about this list.

3. I haven’t given any information about the films. Even posting a screen shot from the film will go a long way to get votes.

So… really it doesn’t look like I put much effort into making this list or just don’t care about the subject. So, why should anyone else care?

Adding links to lists that are similar to your list is always nice but did you ask the person you are linking to if you could link to their list?

There are plenty of reasons why lists simply don’t get votes. Even list that I think are great might not get very many votes.

Also, if your not very active on Listal members might not even know your around. So, explore… vote… make comments and check out the forums.

Why is my list not getting any votes?

 

1. The first thing your going to want to do is make sure that your list is set to “Public”. If the list is set to “Private” no one can see the list and can’t vote on the list.

 

2. To set your list to public, click on the “Edit Button”

3. Click on the “Public” option and then save the list.

Your list should now be visible to the public and people may now vote on the list.

What does Blocking a user do…

If you have blocked someone…

1. They can not send you a message
2. They can not comment on your profile
3. They can not comment on any of your lists
4. They can not comment on any images you have posted

The person you blocked can still view all the items you post and comments that you make. So, it doesn’t make you invisible to them. Just make it so they can not contact you in any way.

Anyone you have blocked can still respond to any thread you create in the public forums.

How Do I Block A User…

 

All you have to do to block a user is to visit their profile page and click on “Block”.

The “Block” button will change to “Unblock” and your done. No fancy pop-windows or anything… one click… no fuss.

How Do I Add A Music CD to Listal…

 

1. If you can’t find the music CD on Listal you will need to find the CD on Amazon.com

2. You can use the URL for the item or…

… you can use the ASIN number.

 

3. Once you have copied ether the URL or ASIN number go to the Listal web site.

4. On the top bar click on “My Stuff” and chose “Music”

 

5. From this window click on “Add Music”

6. This will take you to a window where you can add the CD. Paste the URL or ASIN number in the box and click on one of the “Add to…” buttons.

7. You will then get a window letting you know that the item has been added.

Congratulations you added a CD to the Listal database. Happy listing!

How Do I Add a Band to Listal…

 

You will actually need to add a music CD from that band. Once the CD is added Listal will automatically add the musical group associated with that CD.

How to add a movie to the Listal database…

 

If you search for a movie and nothing is found you can always add it to the database…

 

1. When you want to add a movie to the Listal database, go to IMDb and find the movie you want to add.

2. Once you have found the movie you want copy the URL for that web page. (Note: My web browser will look different from yours)

 

3. Now go back to the Listal web site. Click on the “My Stuff” tab and chose “Movies”

4. From this page you want to click on the “Add Movie” link.

5. This will take you to where you can add the film. Paste the URL into the space provided and click one of the “Add to…” buttons.

6. You will then get a window confirming that your film has been added.

Congratulations you have added a movie to the Listal movie database.

Image size for custom sections/headers

 

If you have edited a number of lists you know that the maximum width of an image posted in the notes section is 500 pixels.

The maximum size for an image posed in the custom section area is 600.

 

 

However, when you are adding the image code to the section area you need to replace the default image code of 500 with the size 601

And that is how I add custom headers to sections but there are many other ways to use images in the description portion of custom sections.

How to add a book to the database…

 

1. If you can’t find the book you are looking for on Listal. You will need to find the item on Amazon and get the ISBN Number.

 

2. Go to Amazon.com and find the book you want to add.

 

3. Scroll down to Product Details and copy the ISBN-13 number.

4. Now go to Listal site. Click on the “My Stuff” tab at the top of the site and select “Books”

5.  From here you will have a number of options. You will want to click on the “Add books” link.

6. From this window past the ISBN number from Amazon web site and click one of the three “Add to…” buttons.

7. You will then get window confirming that your item has been added.

Congratulations you have added a new book to the Listal database.

Why are my list/picture/video votes missing?

 

Sometimes this happens when a member has deleted their account. The system periodically purges the activity associated with these ‘ghost’ accounts. This includes resetting list votes and list comments.

If you feel that your missing votes are not because of a member deleting their account, please post your concern in the Feedback forum.

Why Can’t I Make My List Public?

 

The lists that are automatically created for you when you click the “Favorite” button are hard coded to always be “semi-public”.

You will not be able to publish these lists. You can always use information from that list to create a new custom list.

How to Create a List of People with Pictures

For a list of people you actually need to find the person to add them to the list. So, you first step is to find the person you want to add...

Step One - Find Person

Once you have found the person you can then add them to a list you already have or create a new list by clicking the "+ Custom" button.

Step Two - Add Person

You can now chose what image you want for a list. This can be an image you have uploaded to your images or any image on Listal.

Step Three - Find Image

At the bottom of the image is the code you need to place the image in the list you have created.

Step Four - Find image code

Now you can go to your list to add the image.
Paste the "code" for the image that you want to use in the list you have created.

Step Five - Paste code into list

Ta'Da... all done! I'm all ready to add more people to my "Hot Babes" list.

A Quick Way To Make A List by jaytoast

 

1. Any place on Listal where you see “+ custom” you can create a new list.

 

2. Just click the “+ custom” button and type in a name for your list.

 

3. Click the “Add” button and you should see a conformation that a new list has been created.

 

4. I now have a new list. I can continue to add items to this list using the “+ Custom” button or using the edit function located on each list.

How Do I Create a List? by PK

1) Put your cursor on the "My Stuff" tab on the top of the site setup.

2) Click on "Lists".

 

3) In the blue box on the right, click "Create new list".

4) Select a category (you may suggest more on these forums if your list idea doesn't fit in with these ones), title the list (this can be changed later), and write a description.

5) You will be taken to a search of items in that category. Type in the names or part of the names of the items you want to add, and then drag them to the area below. (You can create multiple sections of the list by clicking on "Add section").

6) Click on the list title (In this case “Happy Happy Fun Time”) to view all your list entries. This is how your list will be seen by other members.

7) Click "Add note" at the bottom-left of each entry to add comments, photos or videos.
